“Dude, suckin’ at something is the first step to being sorta good at something.”
“The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.”
And when someone new to a thing shows up in your community for that particular thing, welcome and guide them.
Everyone was a newbie at one point, even people with natural affinity and extraordinary talent. It never pays off to gatekeep your community, it will die and so will the interest of it. Be welcoming. A great teacher can explain really complex stuff in really simple terms. Stay kind.
I help run a makerspace. It’s amazing when a newbie comes in and shows some enthusiasm. They often get swept up by an expert or 2. They tend to leave slightly dazed, but happy. Those that start coming regularly gain skills rapidly. Often they are the ones that swoop in to help the next newbie who turns up nervous and unsure.
I love that. That positive energy continues moving forward.
Tell that to the loonix gnutard community :(
Unless it’s a support group. Then, do the opposite of that.
Shun and gaslight them?
Sorry, but as a professional gas lighter that isn’t what he meant.
You clearly have no idea what he’s talking about.
I mean don’t encourage an eating disorder. What’s wrong with you?
This was 100% illustrated by a furry
It’s been thrown around the furry subreddits before, i can confirm
Double funny is those big predators giving hunting advice to what might well be a black-footed cat
Triple funny that this can be a “then let them eat cake” joke where they’re giving worse than useless advice from an irrelevant perspective.
I’m really feeling this right now, having almost succeeded at something that I eventually failed. Thanks for this. ❤️
