Meanwhile, there’s an entire right wing media machine that purposefully collaborates with Republican candidates and their campaigns
Also, you can’t feed Trump questions because it doesn’t matter what you ask him, he’s not going to answer it anyway.
Is a hamberder a question?
And the NY Times is part of it
Yeah and if that’s the sort of thing that I wanted, I’d be voting for the Republicans.
That doesn’t make this right. If democrats are going to make a mockery of the democratic process to “save democracy”, they’re not actually saving democracy.
Whataboutism
How? I’m not saying what the radio host covered in the article did was right…I just think the difference with how right-wing media operates is striking
If the goal is just to talk about random things in Lemmy threads, how’s the weather where you’re at?
Dude, I just explained how what I said relates to this article. It wasn’t at all random. Hope you have a great night and get to set that phone down soon
Pretty fucking hot. I’m in Vancouver and we’ve got a heat wave.
Doesn’t everyone who goes on a radio show give a set of questions? I mean, politicians are supposed to be able to answer more questions than celebrities, but it’s still SOP.
No it’s not SOP. Sometimes the guest will ask for a list of questions beforehand, or ask to talk about some topics and not others. Either way, to present an interview as a “journalistic” interview with the President without disclosing that you were provided the questions to ask him feels less like journalism and more like propaganda
It’s a violation of journalism ethics.
It is propaganda. Democrats have an amazing ability to ruin their chances at winning by picking the worst possible candidates and making the dumbest possible decisions while gaslighting everyone about it.
Picking the worst possible candidates apparently doesn’t matter.
/me gesticulating wildly at Donald Trump
Why? It’s. Normal to have a list of acceptable questions. Given to you by the interviewer.
They agree to the interview with the understanding that they can actually prepare for the questions.
Except the white house sent the questions they wanted asked, looking for the interviewers approval.
The station the interviewer worked for, saying they were no Biden mouthpiece, fired the interviewer for doing so.
Except the white house sent the questions they wanted asked, looking for the interviewers approval.
and again, that’s fairly standard practice. Either the interviewer sends a list of potential questions, or the interviewee sends the questions. It’s normal. I guarantee you every presidential candidate whose done interviews since the advent of radio has done this.
Don’t see a problem here, it’s pretty standard… It’s not like the president of the United States is going to just wing it…
Normal when you’re making it clear to voters. People are trying to see if Biden is cognizant enough right now because of his historically bad debate performance and now we find out that they’re sending questions to hosts beforehand and then bragging that it was unscripted.
Questions before hand doesn’t mean it’s scripted. It just means the “approved” questions are presented, more or less.
And again, this is entirely normal. You don’t go into an interview without having preparation, and that’s not a “script”.
No one- and I mean no one- important enough to be interviewed is going to not give a list of questions they want to answer; and questions they don’t want brought up.
(For example, Jon Stewart’s interviews. The interviewees go on there knowing they’re gonna get asked hard questions, that they’re prepared to answer, and then they get on with reconditioning their image.)
If you already know what questions you’re answering, then it is scripted. Lots of people don’t script their lives so they get a gold star whenever they take a test by paying off the instructor in advance, especially if they’re going to brag afterwards to say that it shows that they are still smart and mentally strong.
That’s patently untrue.
A script details everything line by line. Being “scripted” means everything is written and planned.
Have a selection of questions is not the same as having a script.
Words have meaning, and I think you know that.
Timewarp seems to be a pro fascist posing as a worried left wing who points out technicalities and uses weasel wording to try to get people to not vote, ignore them
given their reply… I’m thinking you’re right (and they don’t actually know that words have meaning.)
Providing the questions beforehand means you already have an answer planned. That is called a scripted response. It means you have “acceptable” questions and “acceptable” answers already planned. If your answers are unscripted, then you have no reason to provide the questions in advance. That is reality. People can live in a imagination-land where Joe Biden is winning in polls and is likely to beat Trump at this point. That is fine. I just prefer to stick with reality.
It just means talking points, nothing prevents the interviewer to ask follow up questions.
Providing the questions beforehand means you already have an answer planned.
Holy shit, politicians prepare answers for questions political campaigns feed interviewers? This has literally never, ever happened before in the entire history of politics and media.
Except for every other election.
Sorry, but it does not seem weird at all that the office of the president have questions in advance, this is the president, not someone who is going to just walk into an unscripted interview, give me a break. Pretty thin attempt to go after Bidens mental acuity, no matter the reality
