2·1 day agoUnfortunately it depends on the app and where you view it. The app I use (Thunder) shows Steam Hardware at the top of the community and in the community list, but shows “steamdeck” in small texts under posts still.

1·3 days agoSorry, I don’t actually know about the frame. I should have clarified I was talking primarily about the Machine.

121·3 days agoI can definitely get that for Steam Frame, but I feel like docked Steam Deck and Steam Machine are basically the same experience, just with different performance levels.

8·3 days agoIt’s also easily user replaceable, it comes with the same smaller size m.2 as the steam deck, but will work with full size m.2 cards as well.

4·8 days agoBut I noticed in the video that he mentions running a second command in the terminal and potentially having to change the Neptune number (the video was made for 65, but the deck is on 611 now) on that second command to reflect the current version number.
You might want to check the GitHub itself, specifically this issue.
It has the commands to run to fix kernel mismatch errors during install

6·14 days agoThe steamOS UI uses a decent bit of power by itself, but that power drain goes away completely once you’re in game (you can get much better power life in low power games like Stardew than you can on the steam library screen for example).
I’m guessing this turns off the UI while downloading, which should drop power usage a fair bit. However downloading itself can be quite power consuming, so there’s definitely going to be some drain still.

12·14 days agoI’ve had it act like it forgot the WiFi password, but I think it was just a connection issue. I think I just backed out without entering anything and tried reconnecting, and it reconnected fine with the stored password.

391·14 days agoHell yeah
Edit:trying it out now, seems to work really well. There are two settings for it, both under Settings>Power.
One enables it at all (and is turned on by default once updated), the other enables it on battery power specifically.
With it enabled, pressing the power button to sleep mid download will pop up a dialog window asking if you want to download with the screen off, or sleep. The initially selected option is download before sleep (so pressing A without intentionally changing your selection will choose this option). If you don’t press any buttons for 10 seconds it will just go directly to sleep instead.

5·18 days agoI just finished Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter yesterday, so I haven’t fully settled into what to play next. I think I’ll go through my installed games and try to finish some games I was enjoying but never finished all the way, like Ys 9 and 1000xResist.

6·18 days agoMostly Trails in the Sky First Chapter. It is possible that I just reached more demanding parts of the game, although the power usage have really changed.
Anyways it’s hard to say for sure, just wanted to see if anyone else had noticed something similar.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•The Steam Controller 2 Got A New Icon And It Further Confirms The LayoutEnglish
17·20 days agoIf you look at the 3d render, it has a dpad and second joystick. I’m pretty sure the 2d icon is just meant to be recognizable without all the buttons/details.
I have a Baseus 65w one, it can fully match the deck’s max charging rate of 45w and is pretty nice. It also can show what voltage and amperage it’s charging at, which is nice for identifying if something is fast charging or not.
Unfortunately it looks like it’s not for sale anymore, which makes me concerned that it might have the same battery cell safety hazard that forced Anker to issue a recall.
They have battery packs that can charge the deck at full speed, mine goes up to 65w output which is plenty to max out the deck’s 45w max. I can even use it for a dock with accessories.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Edit: flawed results] ROG Xbox Ally runs better on Linux than the Windows it ships with — new test shows up to 32% higher FPS, with more stable framerates and quicker sleep resume timesEnglish
3·24 days agoHere’s another video on it that goes more in depth: https://youtu.be/CJXp3UYj50Q
Basically the SteamOS version gets better fps in most games while also have way better battery life. Lower power games would get 2x the battery life when fps when both versions were targeting the same settings/fps.
Basically windows naturally has more overhead than Linux, which really impacts performance/battery life in low power games. But vulkan also typically outperforms directX, so many directX see a noticable performance increase on SteamOS as well (although some amount of this performance gain can be had on windows as well by using dxvk).

11·24 days agoGood catch, results didn’t seem suspicious because Linux has had major performance improvements over windows on previous handhelds.

Yes, the frame is the one most likely to not fit. If it’s an issue we’ll deal with it then.
