Still, we finally have official word the game is coming. Speaking with the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference last year (via VGC), Zelnick compared his company’s major franchises - including Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto - to James Bond, in that they’ll just keep going until the heat death of the universe or the series stop making money. Whichever comes first.
Of course, Zelnick made it clear we’re in for a wait. Lest you think GTA VI and Red Dead Redemption 3 have any chance of dropping in the same decade.
How could you do a Red Dead Redemption 3, though? Like, this article is all just “technically, it would be possible and could look nice”, but how could it work from a story point of view? The only thing I could think would be to go even farther back in time, because John Marston’s story is completely done, and we’ve seen as much of Arthur’s story as we need to.
Mack Callender would be the main character. He was killed by the Pinkertons after Blackwater. The Pinkerton’s told Arthur a bit that seemed to suggest Mack went through the good ending in his final moments. Odds are he’ll witness Dutch’s first acts of madness and will be left for dead.
Don’t forget Jenny. I was thinking it might be gender neutral, what you said about Mac but you can also play as Jenny. Same story just genders swapped
Takea GTA5 (or the rumors of GTA6) approach and have the narrative swap between Mac and Jenny.
Oh that’s a cool thought, that’s be a lot of fun. I already liked the different perspectives of the gang from 2, that would be really interesting in 3
Jack’s story isn’t finished
I think going back is the most obvious choice. There are so many references in 2 to what happened before that I think we’ll see it. What happened to Mac, Davey, and Jenny. How Micah joined the gang. John leaving and coming back. Of course culminating in the Blackwater job
