I have more than one relative that have “treated” suspected heart attacks with alcohol. While their reasoning isn’t the worst since it interferes with clotting, I’d have a heart attack myself if I tried to convince them that alcohol isn’t good for your heart.
But according to the very nonpolitical and very scientific reply I got further down in this comment chain, I’m blaming yuppies for… being yuppies and buying into junk science. Yes, I did do that. How dare I!
The most bizarre thing about that exchange is that they immediately went into talking about addiction when the entire point of the article was that you don’t have to be an addict or heavy drinker to harm yourself with alcohol.
That’s why I suspected a wine snob with the wine snobby belief that they’re special and that their alcohol treat doesn’t count. I know that type offline too.

I honestly didn’t take the yuppies comment very seriously at first, but the statistics on alcohol consumption by income/education reinforce it so hard.
