Community thread: https://lemmy.world/post/16292464
Basically, title.
There will be a few matches, especially at the beginning of the championship, so that would be nice to have a way to get them automatically created.
I was gonna spend time today on the movies bot, I can do a footie bot at the same time if you like?
Oh that would be great!
For the movies bot, do you plan to use it for !movies@lemm.ee , !movies@lemmy.world , both?
We’ve been trying to have regular threads on !movies@lemm.ee , but we could definitely use a bot to track them more closely
Oh no have I gotten myself involved into a community drama
My plan was the lemmy.world community but I have no real objection to doing it for both, and then it’ll get detected as a cross post, and displayed once to people who are seeing either or both communities. (This operating on the assumption that it’s wanted on the lemm.ee community also.) How’s that sound? I just don’t want anyone to yell at me
Hello again,
Sorry you feel like you are getting caught in a drama.
That sounds great! Can I create a thread on !movies@lemm.ee so that we can keep discussing this, or do you have a Matrix / XMPP address that we can use to chat for potential debugging of the bot? I would normally DM you but unfortunately I’m pretty sure DMs do not federate between Lemmy and Mbin
Yeah, creating a thread for it sounds good. I’m looking at it now 👍🏻. I have matrix but pretty rarely use it
Perfect! Here it is: https://mbin.grits.dev/m/movies@lemm.ee/t/189056/Meta-Discussion-thread-for-automated-posts-for-new-movie-releases#comments

Do you have a data feed to pull from, or some kind of list of matches? It shouldn’t be too hard to use a simple python script to parse a file and post automatically on a schedule. I maintain a repo that doesn’t exactly match your use case, but I could maybe add your functionality depending on complexity
Well the thing about a tournament is that of course we cant know the team pairings of quarterfinals etc until the games before have been played. So we would need a source that updates itself with that info
This Git repo has a list of hidden ESPN APIs that might be useful for automatically pulling data.
Great, thanks!
A csv of kick off times (in UTC) and who is playing would be helpful to whomever takes this up
https://schedule.lemmings.world Wouldn’t this do the job? Unless you need to automatically fetch some data then idk.
Ideally the automated post would also pull the teams name from a source and put them in the threads titles
Have you tried talking to the mods over at r/soccer how they have set up their match threads? I think they are pulling live updates from ESPN.
