Pardons don’t make anything legal. Murderers get pardoned but murder is still illegal.

If you think you can prop up an anti-Trump president that will also pardon the terrorists supporting them, then you could in theory risk it. In practice, you’ll probably be treated the way the Jan 6 traitors should’ve been treated: shot dead, or locked up for a long time.

You’ll need a left of center president that is willing to use violence.

I am not sure if even a president Bernie would pardon a leftwing “Jan 6”

The obvious joke is to say “Go try it”. However, I come from a time when it was well understood that “You should try storming the capitol building and riot” is an OBVIOUS joke. It would be a very stupid thing to do. Like, who would actually DO that?! Then…they actually did that. I woke up one morning, turned on my tv, and IMMEDIATELY saw the stupidity.

Well surely they’re going to go to jail, right?

Some of them did. Some got jail time. They did a year or two. They got about 60% of the rioters.

NOW thats all changed. They’re actually being pardoned. See, the whole joke of “go try it”, is based on obvious reprecussions of your actions BEING obvious. Now that’s all changed. Now it’s unclear what would happen. Hell, these assholes for the next 4 years could just riot on any opposition’s space. Not a protest. Full on riot. They could even comit acts of terrorism. Bomb buildings. Public shootings. The works. But as long as they all wear an identifying maga patch, they might all be pardoned. They could even do this weekly. Cheeto supremo doesn’t give a shit. He could actually sell pardons before a riot, then pardon them immediately.

Now to be fair, I don’t approve of Jan 6th rioters. I don’t approve of retaliation rioters. But now I feel like I can’t even make obvious jokes, because the basis of the joke is no longer true. I feel like saying “Go try it” is actual encouragement now.

He pardons specific offences, not entire types of crimes.
