I don’t see this show mentioned too much online. It was a CBS show so I wouldn’t be surprised if that contributed to it. It’s a single cam show though rather than a multi-cam.
The show follows an extended LA family. A mother (Dianne Wiest) & father (James Brolin) with three adult children that have their own families. Each episode is split into four separate stories with the different characters. Not every story has the same running time.
There’s essentially twelve main characters so there’s a lot of room to play with different dynamics. It’s not heavy on big arcs. Things do change over the course of the seasons & series.
Besides the two listed above other cast members include Colin Hanks, Betsy Brandt, Dan Bakkedahl & Zoe Lister-Jones. Zoe is a standout playing the Type A personality trapped in this deeply codependent family by marriage.
You can boil a lot of the characters down go archetypes. The Mama’s boy, the failed artist, the hot mess & so on. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing
One thing it does suffer from is a lack of recurring character throughout the series. Even though they have the large ensemble I think shows are a lot stronger when they have deep recurring roster.
If you’re in the US the series is included with with Hulu & Disney+ or available for purchase at the usual online places.
