Freeze your credit on all three bureaus. IIRC it is free for all of them, just don’t get tricked into enrolling in their credit monitoring service. You’re there to freeze and unfreeze your credit, nothing more. From then on, any time you apply for something that requires a credit check, you need to go thaw each credit bureau temporarily. They all let you schedule thaws, so just open it for a day, apply. And close it back up. Or however long your credit check takes.

The premium service offered by these data breaches is pretty terrible. In some cases, they’ll have a clause that says if you accept, you can’t sue or be part of a class action suit. If you have a credit card with monitoring included, they will notify you way faster if your credit is run. My credit card companies email me within minutes of an application being submitted. The paid service I got from a breach years ago doesn’t let me know till about a week later.

Fully agree. I got my EV used and it’s 7 years old now and buying it was definitely the right choice for me. But I remember considering all of those factors when I was shopping. Used EVs becoming cheap is great and helps get them into the hands of people who can’t afford new ones. Sure I’ll make less selling when I do, but it’s a tool for transportation, not an investment.

While the Herz fleet being sold is definitely impacting Tesla resale prices specifically, I think the larger impact is ICE vs EV resale in general. An ICE car from 5 years ago is not all that different than a new one today, mechanically speaking. 5 years in the EV world is a very long time. A new model will come with longer range and faster charging that was not feasible 5 years ago. So a brand that only sells EVs is going to suffer a bit more in studies like these.

I went to test out a Kona EV a few years ago and the dealer allegedly had one in stock according to the website but when I got there, the guy told me they don’t sell them in my state. I thought that was odd, but he explained it that there was no way to charge them here. I acted dumb and asked why I couldn’t charge at home. He just said it needed a special plug and my state didn’t have those…Not public chargers (of which there were many), the dude tried to tell me my state did not have access to standard RV or Dryer plugs.

But yeah, there are some great used deals out there right now with Hertz dumping their fleet due to collision repair costs.

Dealers are still a big problem for EVs on top of the points mentioned in the article. They complain about it being hard to sell EVs, but also mark up almost every model and push customers toward ICE cars. Dealers are incentivized to sell ICE cars that support them long term with overpriced service intervals and repairs. EVs don’t require as much regular maintenance. States with strong dealer laws like Oklahoma have been fighting against EV adoption by banning direct sales, show rooms, and even service centers.

You’re absolutely right. It’s highly unlikely they’d rule in his favor. As you said, that would give any president absolute power and that’s not agreeable to the court who, after overturning Chevron, will wield a lot more power themselves.

I hope they refuse the case. It would have been smart for the judiciary as a whole to do that a long time ago. Let trump face trial while they still had another viable candidate in the race. However, the strategy in all of his legal fights has been to drag this out as long as possible in the hope that he becomes president and it’s all null and void. Thus allowing him to never face trial and the court to never rule either way.

I doubt they will rule in his favor, or at least hope that is the case. The more likely scenario is that they’ll play for time. They refused to take the case early a few months ago so that it would be forced into a lower court. That court took it’s time and is now complete with the obvious ruling. Now the SCOTUS will take it up and sit on it till November.

I like the mention of carriage rides too, or the taxis in GTA. Those are pretty immersive. You paid the driver and took a nap.

I didn’t learn that Red Dead Redemption 2 had a fast travel system until after my first playthrough. I completed a second playthrough shortly after and still didn’t use it. Im glad the game had the feature still because I know not everyone has 5-10 minutes to ride everywhere or are not as interested in that aspect of the game. The world was plenty compelling for me, personally, to not use it. I liberally use fast travel in other games. Sometimes I want immersion, sometimes I want to progress the story. I don’t think it’s indictive of lazy design. I really appreciate the option when I have it.

On top of all that, you have to factor in the development and testing costs for the CVR or FDR too. These are usually off the shelf, previously developed components. A seemingly trivial change like bigger storage suddenly costs several hundred thousand dollars to retest and time to recertify by dozens with agencies around the world. If the regulations have not changed, then there is no reason for to go through that whole R&D process again when the same bought and paid for system works.
