Anyone running a newer MacBook Pro can install Ollama and run it with just a few commands:
brew install ollama
ollama run deepseek-r1:14b
Then you can use it at the terminal, but it also has API access, so with a couple more commands you can put a web front end on it, or with a bit more effort you can add it to a new or existing app/service/system.

Unfortunately I think most businesses will still prefer that their AI solution is hosted by a company like OpenAI rather than maintaining their own. There’s still going to be a need for these large data centers, but I do hope most people realize that hosting your own LLM isn’t that difficult, and it doesn’t cost you your privacy.

Wait, so mandating return to office in the middle of flu season has resulted in more people getting sick? Who could have seen that coming?

Yes, that’s how it works when one thing is more expensive than another thing. But people do save up money through one part of their life to spend during another part of their life. And they aren’t the only people who used to think that Tesla’s were cool tech cars.

Think of it as a methadone clinic for doomscrollers.

Ah yes, just what we need in a burgeoning online community: people discouraging interactions.

HereBeter is saying that trump is a legal criminal… you know, since he has been found guilty of many crimes, yet hasn’t had to have any consequences.

Wait, so would this be in exchange for Greenland?

As for the travel argument, kids are so much fun to travel with! Experiencing new places through a child’s eyes!? They ask some great questions, and you get to hone in your own opinions as you decide the best way to explain life to them. Travel is the best way to raise tolerant and knowledgeable children. If you’re concerned about more… hedonistic travel just realize that you only get 18 to 20 years with them in your daily life, those designations will still be there. If you’re afraid that’s a long time then you likely haven’t had your 20th high school reunion yet.

it simply produces things with bugs
And the small companies will realize that you need to start investing in your QA again - because NO ONE does adequate QA any more. Every piece of software I interact with these days is shit. If you are a developer, I’m talking to you: your code might be great, but the overall product is shit because no one is adequately testing the functionality. I get it, Testing is expensive… but now that you need fewer developers, hire some QA engineers. Just because we’ve moved on to ‘continuous improvement’ doesn’t mean we can’t do better.

skeet (the generally accepted term for a Bluesky post)
Can we just agree that they are all just “posts”? No more “tweets”, “Toots”, “xeets”, etc… it’s just a post.
I hope you don’t mind, but I was inspired!

I love it!
This is one I made the day he was caught, it still makes me giggle.

I’ve been considering ordering a bunch of these.

“Remember, no Russian”
“I have a plan, Arthur”
“Pheromones.” “Do I smell beef?”

It means you’re still in consideration.
I know when I’ve hired in the past, if I like the first person I interview I still try to interview at least one more person so I actually have a choice. If I don’t like someone I’ll immediately let them know.

The only time I’ve ever had my food stolen was when I was working as a deckhand on a tug. I’ve been working white collar jobs for the past 25 years and haven’t had to deal with it since.
Also, my solution was to spray degreaser on my food the next day and wait to see who complains. Turns out, I’m the one who got in trouble for that even though I put a ‘do not eat’ sign in the food.

When China, the US or Google do break encryption they aren’t going to announce it.
This isn’t true, a lot of corporations use and benefit from the foss and they should be supporting those projects.
They should also be supporting projects that could replace the applications that they spend millions on each year. When your CIO says that they are using ‘whatever corpo system’ because a viable open source project doesn’t exist, they should start funding the non-viable projects so they can become viable.
