Up is subjective and arbitrary. It implies that there is a strict and clear hierarchy to oppression, discrimination, and marginalization and ignores intersectionality. If a black woman is shitty to a disabled white woman, is she punching up or down? How do you weigh the different traits that lead to marginalization? Who’s above who? How does this change as conditions change (for example racism in China vs racism in America). And in the end, what goal is it helping you achieve? Is it an effect strategy to achieve that goal? In the end, there is a more complex situation at play here that can’t be boiled down to “you’re above me so it is okay for me to be shitty to you.”

Unless you are also complaining about it when white male characters are also surface-level, 2-D, copy-and-paste characters then all you are saying is “Only white male characters are allowed to be simple or a stereotype/trope.” Lets be honest, not every game needs a complex and well written character, and that is fine. If they choose to go that route it doesn’t matter what race, religion, or gender the character is in the first place. So it doesn’t matter if they are a white male, a latina woman, or a black non-binary person.

Now I’m also not gonna shut down your solution without being constructive and providing my own solution, cause I don’t think quotas are the answer either. Instead we should be uplifting and empowering marginalized creators and game designers so that they can make more characters that they want to make. Which is generally characters they can relate to. If people want more characters that are women, then the game industry needs to become a safe space for women and empower them so they can provide more representation for characters. Same thing for any other demographic. That will make sure that these characters are being made in an aethentic and organic way, and not just being pumped out to meet a quota, but also isn’t restricting when marginalized demographics can be used as characters.

Yall tend to forget that not everyone lives in cities (or even well developed cities), and not everyone wants to. Sure yeah your idea is good for those living in well developed cities and want to live in them. But those of us who don’t really do need to own a car. Public transport is not a one size fits all, and yall need to stop pretending like it is.

There’s a pet store on the inside of a tiny mall thats part of a strip mall. Every other business in that part of the mall dies, especially since the dmv relocated. Only thing that has remained consistent for the nearly 30 years I have walked this earth is the pet store and the nail salon. I at least see customers at the nail salon.

I feel like audio books might help me, but I also really prefer having physical books (one reason is I distrust digital media services).

Personally I find it a kind of privileged and toxic perspective. You never know why someone isn’t taking medication. I am not and gave my reasons in a reply to the original comment. How people cope is their business as long as it isn’t harming themself or others. And posting memes in communities to feel heard and not alone is an entirely valid way to help cope.

While I don’t know the context of your ban, it doesn’t sound like it was a valid reason for it and I am sorry for that. And while I don’t think the original comment that we are replying to deserves to be deleted (definitely not banned), I wouldn’t be opposed if it was because I do see it as toxic and privileged.

I used to be on anti-depressants, and I won’t deny they are a great tool to protect yourself. But don’t pretend like there aren’t cons to taking these types of medications, ADHD meds included. When I finally developed good enough coping skills, and healed past the trauma that caused my depression, I got off the anti-depressants because I did not like how they made me feel (or lack there of). I do not take ADHD meds because I would rather learn how to cope without meds. There are plenty of reasons why someone wouldn’t want medication, and it feels more like you are the one shaming people for how they cope. I am on enough medications as is, I do not want another one, and I do not need another one as I am learning to cope without it.

My guess is neurodivergents tend to be more militant in our preferences because the factors that affect the choice weigh a lot heavier on us. Like how loud crowded areas aren’t really pleasant for anyone, but it can be down right crippling for neurodivergents because of how severe the over stimulation is.

The reason why I put Palestine over Ukraine is because Palestine is a genocide right now, while Ukraine isn’t. Ukraine is two capitalist states fighting.

I do still also think working for a defense contractor like Lockheed is wrong as working for them is far more direct of a hand in death than most other jobs. And I wouldn’t say they are immoral, they are chasing money (which in of itself is immoral) and chose to do it through profitting off of war. They may do good sometimes but it is not out of the goodness of their hearts, its to profit off of killing each other. And just as I do with elections, if the game is pick a lesser evil I will not play.

And with the McDonald’s et al yeah I wouldn’t shame those working there, I lost track of my point. Was just trying to say I take action to oppose them, just like I would with Lockheed if I could (I don’t live near one and I cant buy their stuff to begin with lol).

I won’t deny its more complicated than I gave it credit for, but I think Lockheed is indefensible of a corporation. Working for them is a deal with the devil. There are reasons why I wouldn’t shame someone for working there, but they are exceptions and not the rule.

With Lockheed you are forced to choose between being complacent with it because they supply Ukraine’s defense against occupation by an imperialist power or outright oppose it due to its supplying towards the Palestinian genocide. The genocide is a dealbreaker in any capacity for me. Even ignoring the genocide, the bad outweighs the good to me by a longshot. I oppose it just like how I oppose McDonald’s, Amazon, Starbucks, and more.
