Cris@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•Rocky Linux Still Lacks Major Version Upgrade Support—And That’s a ProblemEnglish2·9 天前Is it rocky or alma linux that people think is better? I don’t have any need for either but I can never remember which is which 😅
Cris@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•! Mastodon new ToS from July 1 has a binding Arbitration waiver* !!rEnglish4·11 天前Thank you very much for the context, that makes a lot of sense and I’m glad this info can be part of the discussion here :)
I don’t think that’s entirely unreasonable, I’m curious to see how those will compare too!
Cris@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Mastodon updates terms of service to ban AI model training on user dataEnglish126·13 天前I agree, but I’m glad they did it anyway.
Sorry if this has already been posted, this video is from a couple weeks ago, but I just saw it in my recommendations and thought folks might enjoy the win for Linux :)
Cris@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•PeerTube just reached its final goal for the mobile app fundraiser - 75k € - with a few hours to spare!English5·13 天前That’s unfortunate to hear, I haven’t really used loops at all but I hope they can figure it out to a point of adequacy
Cris@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•PeerTube just reached its final goal for the mobile app fundraiser - 75k € - with a few hours to spare!English7·13 天前Yeah, if it wants to actually compete with YouTube it would have to have monetization. I’ve talked about that on Lemmy before, I agree.
But at least with a good algorithm it could be like old youtube where folks can speak to the world and share things in video format
Cris@lemmy.worldto Fediverse@lemmy.world•PeerTube just reached its final goal for the mobile app fundraiser - 75k € - with a few hours to spare!English14·13 天前I also feel like the algorithm is kinda brutal. Even if there’s good stuff I’m not sure I’d ever really find it
Yeah, I’ve had this issue too, it’s absolute dogshit
Cris@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trial opens for lawsuit against pardoned Capitol riot defendant over police officer’s suicideEnglish1·14 天前Was curious what the connection was resulting in the lawsuit
Smith’s lawsuit claims Walls-Kaufman [a Jan 6 rioter] scuffled with her 35-year-old husband [the deceased] and struck him with his own police baton inside the Capitol, causing psychological and physical trauma that led to his suicide. Smith had no history of mental health problems before the Jan. 6 riot, but his mood and behavior changed after suffering a concussion, according to his wife and parents.
Walls-Kaufman, who lived near the Capitol, denies assaulting Smith. He says any injuries that the officer suffered on Jan. 6 occurred later in the day, when another rioter threw a pole that struck Smith around his head.
Brackets added for clarity
Cris@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•It's that time of the decade where we can bring out this memeEnglish15·14 天前This is an actually top tier meme, thank you for blessing my feed with this masterpiece
Even though it makes me sad 🥲
Cris@lemmy.worldto Linux@programming.dev•The Ongoing BcacheFS Filesystem Stability ControversyEnglish9·20 天前I think a filesystem is the kind of thing I’d expect to stay in alpha or beta a really long time 😅 I’m not the most technical linux user thought so maybe that is a long time, I dunno
But like Wayland took ages to be usable. I wonder how long btrfs took to get out of unusable early stages…
Edit: I didn’t see that the dev had said its production ready… I don’t really buy that lol 😅
I mean I hate to be critical on a comm that doesn’t seem meant for it and I’m already in the middle of one longwinded discussion with folks in another part of lemmy so I dont want another one, but like…
We also love purity testing our fellow leftists, and all kinds of people who absolutely pass the test of being nazis 😅. I think we’re kinda horrible at accepting even minor differences in political thought
I appreciate that it seems like you considered my perspective :)
Hope you have a nice day!
Cris@lemmy.worldOPto cats@lemmy.world•[answered] what do you do if you find a kitten outside at 3 am with a collar?English7·21 天前Well it’s not around anymore so if I see it while I’m out on a walk again or something maybe I can tuck a note in its collar and see if anyone takes it? I just went out to check cause now I’m a bit anxious could have led it away from its home and I don’t want it to not be able to get back 😅
The recurring trend here clearly is me being anxious lol
Cris@lemmy.worldOPto cats@lemmy.world•[answered] what do you do if you find a kitten outside at 3 am with a collar?English12·22 天前Lol, everyone in the other thread seemed to agree that I should leave it be and that it was outside intentionally, someone very helpfully pointed out the collar looks to be a flea collar so I’m back inside now and hopefully it makes its way back to its owner’s unit in the morning
But I did give it LOTS of scritches and eye kisses and attention, and sat outside or walked with it for probably about an hour
From what I’ve heard (and it agrees with my anecdotal experience):
One of the things that takes the most strain when you skip sleep is your heart. Sleep is one of the times when your heart muscles get to rest a bit more, so it can struggle to pump blood when you don’t rest
Along those lines, drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated can help make your blood consistency a little thinner and easier to pump.
I’d also consider trying to eat foods that aren’t too high in fat, and don’t have too high of a glycemic index. Lots of fat all at once can make you feel heavy and tired, exacerbating tiredness, and foods high in glycemic index that contain more simple sugars and less fiber will spike your blood sugar, resulting in a crash that I would also expect to exacerbate tiredness.
The last thing I’d add is to keep in mind that people are extremely bad at assessing how much their sleep deprivation is affecting them. Studies have shown that people are genuinely dogshit at it, and will consistently think they’re performing about average while producing horrible results in cognitive tests. Remember that even if you feel like you’re doing fine in terms of ability to think, objectively you aren’t and are operating at a significantly diminished capacity, and you just can’t tell.
Tldr, stay hydrated, eat foods without a ton of fat and that are lower glycemic index, and remember that your brain is really dumb when you don’t sleep, even though it often won’t feel like it
