There is a community for that kind of stuff if you’re into it - !hardwaregore@lemmy.world. It’s kinda inactive and only has a new post once every other month, but there’s a photo of basically the same thing done to an HDMI cable seven posts down.

That’s true, and especially smaller businesses often can’t afford translation services. If a machine translation can increase their sales, I won’t blame them for using it. I’m just a language nerd who knows nothing about running a business (and I’m not even an actual translator, I just happened to speak the right language at the right time).

Maybe I’m not super up to date on AI stuff, but I worked as a translator for a year, and AI (they used ChatGPT and DeepL) still made a bunch of mistakes that you’ll immediately notice when you speak the language. It feels like their training input had a bunch of older, Google-translated articles in them that were just bad. Maybe an AI trained specifically for translation with curated learning material and a “teacher” who corrects mistakes can get closer to replacing human translators, but it’d still miss the cultural context of certain words and phrases that are in a translator’s passive vocabulary, at least in less widely spread languages.

That being said, it’s definitely harder to make a career out of translating because companies who don’t know any better just use AI instead. As long as they get their point across (and make money), they don’t care about the finer details.

I really hope it’ll be the second because I’m kinda hyped for this film and I don’t even know why.

He ate a lot of his poop, yes, but not all of it and always straight from his butt. I think they do that because it contains nutrients they need but don’t get (or don’t get enough of) through their normal diet. He had a litter box in one corner of the room that he peed and pooped in, and he never touched that when he was done.

Our bunny looked at me like that every time I collected his poop to use it as fertiliser for my plants, but he got used to it after a while. I think he was still silently judging me.

That’s what’s so wild about hiking (and life). You look up and see how far you still need to go, but then you turn around to look back, see how far you’ve already come, and realise that you’re already halfway there.

I do that, too! It’s a convenient way to keep the cookies you want (like the ones that keep you logged in) and discard the cookies from random shops and news websites that you don’t want to keep. And my Youtube frontpage is empty, which saves me a ton of time I would otherwise waste on random videos their algorithm shows me.

Looks like there’s a cookie banner in there. The “Options” button is probably hard to find because it’s only a slightly different shade of the background colour, and you’ll have to manually uncheck twenty “legitimate interest” boxes hidden in a submenu. Pretty scary, indeed!

That’s true, it’s definitely better to play it badly than not at all. And I’m really glad I finally got a guitar instead of spending months looking at them online but never buying one.

It’s not all that wacky, but I bought a guitar (my first one! I’m usually a bassist) last week. It’s a seven-string, and now I’m learning to play Breaking the Law by Judas Priest. It feels a bit like this instrument is wasted on me because it’s a very nice one, but it’s kinda fun! And every time I play the guitar, put it down after a while, and go back to my bass, playing the bass feels new and exciting again <3

The song they chant to transfer their soul into the object is actually pretty dope! I am a dwarf and I’m digging a hole, diggy, diggy hole. I’ll give it a shot when I’m dying, but I’ll make sure there aren’t any MLP toys around.

edit: turns out the song is actually based on a Minecraft clip! I guess this comic references the original clip, not the song, but it’s a good song nonetheless.

That’s my biggest problem with self-checkouts. There’s always a weird payment service provider behind them who wants to share whatever they can with their 3621 partners. I guess the same is true when you use anything but cash, including card payments at regular tills, but at least they give you the option to pay with cash. Self-checkouts usually don’t (but a few do!).

Some of my sunflowers are getting to the point where I can harvest their seeds. That’s super exciting because it’s my first time collecting seeds. This’ll sound very dumb, but until earlier this year, I thought sunflower seeds were a bit like apples and grew out of the little things that bees collect pollen from, but then I saw that the seeds grew underneath the pollen. I always thought I had seedless sunflowers. I’ll leave plenty of seeds for the birds, but growing sunflowers from seeds that I harvested myself sounds so cool, and I’m really looking forward to spring now.

You just need to add a thin layer plastic on the inside to prevent that from happening! Then it’s no longer plastic-free, but it’s still reusable and greatly reduces the amount of plastic needed compared to disposable cups.

My GP has an online tool to make appointments, and it’s great. I wouldn’t use it for genuinely private stuff because the company behind it is a bit shady, but booking an appointment to get vaccinated is generic enough for me to pick convenience over privacy. It’d be great if they could use open-source, privacy-respecting software, though.

It’s amazing how plants can recover from what looks like a major injury. Last year, I had a sunflower seedling in a small cup, and something bit off its head. Might’ve been a bug, or a bird, we’ll never know, but all that was left was a thin stem, just like in your photo. I kept watering it, and after a while, it started growing new leaves, then a second head, and although it was much smaller than the other sunflowers, it still bloomed.
