Agreed on like 90% of your takes. The “real”-feeling near-future sci-fi was excellent. And the thought put towards the physics was very much appreciated. Where we diverge a bit is on the romance track. I didn’t have an issue with the direction, and was actively rooting for them. Their affection felt organic and natural. But as you said, it derailed a bit and, combined with career choices, left me disappointed at the very end. But the good was so freaking good.

I’ve had a hankering to re-watch lately. I’ve got the DVDs, and they will do in a pinch, but it’s hard to go back to SD anymore. Last I checked the show was in rights purgatory, with no discs in print or a way to stream it. Maybe I’ll finally get around to reading the manga.

Well that sucks. I am guilty of really only following Risa, mostly due to big gaps in my watch history and wanting to avoid spoilers for the newer shows. I’m not surprised though… Reddit had (and still has) tremendous amounts of inertia.

Successfully pulling off a lift-and-move like that was huge. I wish more niche/fandoms had followed suit instead of staying put.

Seconded, and same for thumbnails while scrolling. In gif-heavy communities it just bogs things down.

You know what worked for me? Getting passably good at singing the Bowie parts. It’s like the parts that want to get stuck are in opposition with the Bowie parts and there’s some mental tussling then suddenly the song is over and you’re free.

It also works well at confusing the shit out of people at parties who all want to sing along yet seemingly never got the memo that the song is a duet.

Just some horse balls is all.
