Eskating cyclist, gamer and enjoyer of anime. Probably an artist. Also I code sometimes, pretty much just to mod titanfall 2 tho.

Introverted, yet I enjoy discussion to a fault.

  • Yep.

This also means that different people who post the same thing to different communities have their posts show up as “linked” allowing people to find all the places people are talking about something.

It mostly works with youtube videos and articles though. With images you have to make sure to use the same image link.

  • I only rarely host media on my instance itself. Catbox lets me control exactly what the file is, as the file is not subjected to any post-upload conversions.

But many instances will actually grab a copy of the image and cache thumbnails at various resolutions.

Thunder’s current version actually attempts to load the instance cached versions of images, though this has unintentionally left it unable to load and display the source file.

In the future, the plan is to make this configurable, to allow users to set an image size they’d like Thunder to request from the instance cache instead of loading full images every time, allowing for faster browsing and conserved bandwidth.

Because I want to keep the title contents minimal. I initially didn’t even include the artists in the title, but only plopped a link in the body, but I changed that as most people won’t check the body text.

If I’m including any untranslated details, it’ll be in the post body. If its inclusion is in case someone needs to use it as a search term, it doesn’t need to be in the title for someone just scrolling by.

It really depends. Handle and usernames aren’t even the same thing anymore, and especially on pixiv, I’ve noticed artists changing the display name on a regular basis, even though pixiv doesn’t even have handles to fall back on if a user gets confused.

The script primarily pulls the artist name from either saucenao or pixiv, and either translates or romanises it. It’s nice to see something pronounceable, because unless you can read the moon runes, there is no real way to commit the artists name to memory. So while the original string is more searchable, it almost completely loses recognizability on a platform with english-speaking users.

I actually want people to find these artists, seeing multiple works and realizing you like something a certain person makes, is what eventually gets people to look them up, I feel.

But, I could improve the script further by having it include the pixiv artist ID and twitter handle in cleartext when those sources are available, etc.

Some instances are running on better servers than others, have staff that fix issues quicker and attend to updates sooner.

For example, .world is still on v18 while the rest of the threadiverse has mostly moved on to v19.

Some instances defederate certain other instances, so in some cases you might end up finding that a community you subbed to gets disappeared by the admins of your instance (lemmy.ml did this to ani.social a while back). Whether there are valid reasons goes case by case, sopuli.xyz for example blocks instances that are for porn, and I like it that way.

Though outward federation is a bit borked on there atm, so I’m using my alts…

But really, it doesn’t matter that much. If the grass looks greener, you can hop over the fence and see for yourself, and then hop right back if it turns out it wasn’t.
