It depends on what you want out of your phone. I use Calyx because I like living a foss-as-much-as-possible lifestyle, and they’ve got some pretty cool networking features (sharing VPN over hotspot and across profiles) and I prefer to use MicroG over sandboxed play services. Muerena is kind of for people who want an iOS-like experience without the spying. Ive never actually tried iode myself. Lineage is kind of the base starting point. Its available for a lot more phones than Calyx and Graphene support (You can even install it on some Nintendo Switches!), but its not as Privacy hardened. UBTouch & Postmarket OS are for the brave souls who want to give linux mobile a go. I want to try it one day but I want to use KDE Plasma Mobile instead of Ubuntu Touch. PostmarketOS afaik is the furthest along mobile linux OS with KDE Plasma Mobile, but the phone I would want it on has broken audio drivers ATM so its a no go for me rn.

Give them all a look though, look into threat modeling and what features you might want. You may find Graphene works just fine for you, you may find another project suits your needs a lot more. Its hard to really say one way or another! :P

I like CalyxOS for my threat profile, I recommend the OS for people who want to have more control over their personal data and how its shared.

In order to share the VPN on non-CalyxOS android you’d have to root AFAIK, and rooting introduces a threat vector for bad actors to abuse if you’re Trying to avoid being hacked / being spied on (if you need to hide from the gov’t or people who abuse vulnerabilities)

Its not mentioned but I prefer Calyx. Its got better networking features (being able to share your VPN over hotspot and between profiles is a big one for me), and I prefer MicroG (FLOSS) over Sandboxed Play Services (Proprietary). + The calyx devs are generally just really pleasant to talk to. Calyx works on Pixels, Fairphones, a few Motos and sometimes other devices if they can have their bootloader relocked.

I’m not sure exactly what this meme is trying to say. What I am extrapolating from it however is a personal question, where is Gen Z? I genuinely see less than 10 people who even look like they could be a part of Gen Z at every protest I go to. Its always older people. Where are the people who are in college and just graduated? Why aren’t they fighting for their own rights?

You’re more privileged than you will ever realize being in a country that actually sees human life as something other than capital for profit. I hope you never have to understand what we go through and why these are even things we would have to consider in the first place.
