The waffles thing is because Jesse Singal keeps referencing a tweet that says something to the effect of “people take someone saying ‘I like pancakes’ to mean ‘I hate waffles’”, which, yeah, if you’re saying “I like straight white Christian men” you’re probably saying you hate at least some other groups but anyway that’s where the dog whistle came from.

It was already pretty ridiculous the process I had to go through to upgrade with ZFS on root, and that was before the infrastructure started getting attacked and making connecting to the update servers unreliable. :(
