But it’s not entirely sequential
Kinda sad neither the article nor comments here mention https://ask.metafilter.com/

I just got an onhub router working again thanks to openwrt. Many blessings upon them!
Dunkey made this beautiful
I should add that Kickstarter United was really the trailblazer, though they affiliated with local 153 for their first contract because the idea for local 1010 hadn’t really hatched yet. The rest of us in this burgeoning movement of tech workers within OPEIU will be unaffiliated until the local is chartered.
Hey Jacky! Awesome work by you and all of CfAWU in getting this agreement across the finish line! I have to mention that this is also a historic milestone as the first official contract for the tech workers local, OPEIU 1010. With a bit of effort, my union, Nava United, will join you soon with the second contract!

Not just at CD Projekt. This is a trade union!
Coming up this weekend! https://labornotes.org/techcon2023
It’s just our legislators helping to kick off Striketober! But seriously this is a terrible pain in the ass for anyone who actually depends on government services (which on some level is pretty much all of us).

And confirmed! https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/26/23891835/wga-contract-summary-ai-streaming-data
Now, studios will have to provide the WGA with actual data. Specifically “the total number of hours streamed, both domestically and internationally, of self-produced high-budget streaming programs.” That means Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, and the other streamers won’t be able to invent weird metrics or meaningless self-referential rankings to give to the WGA.
This from https://deadline.com/2023/09/wga-strike-officially-end-leaders-approve-tentative-deal-1235556919/ looks promising:
“The Companies agree to provide the Guild, subject to a confidentiality agreement, the total number of hours streamed, both domestically and internationally, of self-produced high budget streaming programs (e.g., a Netflix original series),” the WGA added.
I’m an infrastructure engineer working at a government contractor and I’m in a union with OPEIU 1010, the tech workers’ local. Others are unionizing independently, with CWA, etc… It’s still early days for the tech industry but there are examples. We’re really not that different from other industries with a larger union presence.
