  • The company is called “Safe Super Intelligence”. Not a fan of names like these, kind of like if a company called itself “safe airplanes”, there’s something about it that makes me think it won’t live up to the name.

Not sure how they plan on raising money when so many other AI companies are promising commercialization. A company prioritizing safety will be defeated by another prioritizing profit. A company like this could have flourished in the time before openAI, but right now there’s so much demand for gpus and talent that makes it very challenging to catch up, more so when less scrupulous companies offer more money for engineers. They’d have to hire from a smaller and more limited pool of applicants that believe in the mission.

  • It’s a very fun, silly, well-made game with a very addictive loop where you’re given a lot of small, easily achievable tasks that have you going: “one more and I’m done”.

On Sunday I played for 13 hours. I don’t know if they have a team of psychologists that found out how to make the game addictive, but the results speak for themselves.

It’s a fun and beautiful place to explore, full of vibrant colors and cute pals. Your base building is not boring because the boring resource gathering is automated by your pal slaves. It scratches optimization itches, and you also get raided which can result in hilarious outcomes that give you an opportunity to rebuild and organize your base more efficiently.

  • Javier Milei is:

    • Against abortion (except when mother’s life is in danger)

    • Against sex-ed and wants to eliminate it (says it deforms people’s minds)

    • Denies climate change (says it’s an invention of socialism)

    • Anti-vax (But got vaxxed in Nov 2021 because otherwise he would not be able to work in other countries)

    • Wants to fuse the departments of Social Development, Health and Education into a single department of Human Capital.

    • In favor of Austrian school of economics - Wants to remove the central bank

    • Adopt the US dollar

    • Homosexuality is a personal choice and compares it to zoophilia

    • In favor of drug legalization and to opening up immigration as long as it doesn’t cost the State.

    • In favor of people paying for sex

    • In favor of gun ownership without governmental limitations

    • Wants to freeze relationships with China, Russia, Brazil because they’re communists.

    • Wants to align with the US, particularly Trump’s party.

    • Against the Pope because he represents evil on Earth, and because it promotes communism which goes against the holy scriptures.

    • In favor of animal cloning

    • In favor of organ selling

    Good luck Argentina

  • There are some very large differences between AI and nuclear weapons. There’s nothing as guttural and shocking like a nuclear weapon, everyone feels and understands the power at a brutal level.

AI is insidious and nuanced. It’s invisible and hard to explain to the layperson. Nuclear power is centralized and the barrier for entry is high with tight government controls. AI is distributed and the barrier for entry much lower.

Finally, similar to oil and other fossil fuels, the profit motive is the driving force and we don’t have a good track record keeping that in check, see climate change.

I’m not optimistic that a movie can really change any of that, look at how movies like Wolf of Wall Street end up glorifying and promoting bad behavior because the cautionary tale message is too nuanced and under the surface.

With how the world is incentivized, we’ll often have to do reactive heroics to address problems that could have been prevented. Meaning that I believe things will have to get worse and more in our face before something is done about it.
