DID IT CLEAR ITS ORBIT?!?
I say again, did… Pluto… CLEAR… ITS… ORBIT?

It’s not my thing, but competitive driving in circles at a consistent 180-200mph (290-320kph) with a certain tolerance for bumping. That’s a non-trivial motor sport.
I have no idea if this is a clever bypass around expensive commercial offerings, a clever waste of time that barely improves over doing it by hand, or somewhere in between, but it sure looks like a nice design and print.
This pales in comparison to cheesy blasters.
But only if Trump defends him first.
Literally just now. I was going to agree and add detail about my own thought process, but… meh.
Normal people walking past and shaking their damn heads as I am somehow in a fight with a pirate…
CGI Luke is dead-eyed, twice as monotone as Mark Hamill was on his worst unused take while filming ROTJ, and overall creepy AF, but he’s fine until and unless you greenlight a project where Luke will be a significant character. You don’t necessarily want to commit to whatever random was available to play either 1-scene “deus ex machina Luke” or 2-scene “plot-obstacle Luke.”
Second one probably wasn’t staged. I think Shatner just has that effect on people. 🤣
I didn’t do this but I definitely threw tennis balls at the girl I liked when I was 13, which may be one of the few dumber ways to try to get attention. Teenage boys’ brains are pretty much the reason crappy sit-coms resonate with anyone.
Meanwhile I’m over here playing in the through-hole kiddie pool or dead-bug handwiring keyboards.
I suppose if a given machine can work in LAN or sneakernet mode, then it’s not THAT bad, but I was referring more to their heavy reliance on Cloud, closed source (possibly in violation of other projects’ licensing), and proprietary parts. If any 3D printer maker is going to start hiding features behind a paywall someday, it’s them.
I was thinking the Neptune 4 plus looked pretty good. If I can get my print capacity to 300mm in X and Y, options for my other hobbies (keyboard building in particular) open up. Then, I’ve never really tried TPU, so direct drive also seems nice.
A big Core XY for under $600 seems nice. Have to consider it.
Factoring in marketing costs and the theaters taking their cut of the profits, Megalopolis would need to make at least $300 million to break even. I think it’s safe to say that’s not happening.
While the basic point still stands that this is a financial disaster for somebody, I would be seriously surprised if the usual blockbuster math regarding marketing comes into play here. No way Lionsgate paid $100M marketing a vanity project with “commercial flop” buzz from the beginning. If anything, it seems more like they picked it up on the cheap when everyone else passed, as a gesture to a legend (if apparently a creepy one), and a low-risk bet.
The only other disadvantage I can think of is smaller dimensions in X and Y. At a minimum, I’d like to be able to keep printing 200+ mm squares. The inherent speed and stability seem nice, though.
Apparently, for being bad at border stuff? The fact that almost half the country (and an inconveniently important half, given the god-damn electoral college) thinks this asshole is the best option to lead the country is truly depressing.
Maybe I’m getting whooshed here, but while Shawshank Redemption had some bad luck at the Oscars, it was nominated for seven of them, including best picture, best actor, and best adapted screenplay. People might not have predicted its staying power, but it was pretty much universally praised.
A given sport has to really hit a person at the right point in their lives for them to fall in love with it, and that usually at a fairly young age, but over the years I’ve very much come around to the notion that just because the charms and nuances are lost on me, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
