Been a while since I watched it. Was there a reason they could just drop agent orange or napalm on the Ewoks? Instead of sending in ground troops in mechs.
They were ambushing the rebels who were trying to destroy the shield generator, they weren’t anticipating the teddy bears.
They’d want the rebels in one piece in order to interrogate them about the Rbel Alliance fleets and plans. Hard to get info from a greasy smear on the forest floor.
Realisticly this would probably be enough to make a two legged mech like that fall tho
