    Wow. Really??

Well your experience must be different from mine.

Lemmy got soooo political and set in their way of blue no matter who.

Downvotes went to anyone who critiqued Harris or god forbid mention third party.

Lemmy did all it could do, too much imo cause clearly at the end of the day, it wasn’t about guilt tripping leftists but about energizing apathetic voters.

I frankly could not give less of a shit what happens to Americans. All I care about is Ukraine.

If Trump decides to help Ukraine, somehow, okay.

If not, fuck the US and I hope europe gets its shit together enough to help them for the next 4 years

If Trump decides to help Ukraine

Putin’s not going to let him…

With the president, Congress, and the Supreme Court all being in Trump’s cult I fear for global politics as a whole, and I’m not sure which country the US will be at war with first.

For real though, what does the rescue float in the meme represent irl?

Cuz I sure as fuck won’t be praying, but I’m not really seeing any options other than watching in horror as our country burns down around us.

We can’t even point to the electoral college fucking us over this time - an actual majority of voters decided they want to experience 1930s Germany live and in color.

We’re not going to fix a political system when the majority of actual voters are evil to the core.

Trump as president most likely means a lot of rich people getting richer, american companies getting less regulations, religious fanatics getting their way, etc.

I mean, yeah. It’s great for some people at the expense of others. That’s exactly my point. America will dig dig dig, get super cheap coal, destroy any chance of climate destruction. But for a moment the economy will be amazing.

Let’s get AOC to run. She’ll be old enough next time 'round.

It’s clear the “catering to moderates” strategy has been a catastrophic failure. I say we change gears and actually put up a candidate that isn’t going to try and “play both sides.”

AOC hasn’t been afraid to criticize her party’s decisions, I think she could take the platform Bernie Sanders took and actually make some progress.

Problem is, the DNC would actually need to fucking cooperate instead of falling into their same old tried and failed ways, unlike they did with Bernie both times he ran. I don’t see that happening, and as always, third parties aren’t really an option.

Problem is that she’s a woman, and a statistically significant chunk of America is repulsed by idea of being ruled by a woman. (I’m not going to say a large portion, but big enough that it played a factor in this election)

I’m not in the US, so I won’t be voting for any presidential candidates, but I’ve been impressed with AOC whenever I’ve seen her in interviews.

You’re right about the infighting thing though, and it seems to be endemic to left leaning parties everywhere, whereas the right usually seem to be a much more cohesive team.

Happens in Canada too, only we actually have multiple parties. but the left sides tend to split the vote more whereas the right manages to have less splintering and usually will back one of the major conservative parties. It sucks honestly but I’m okay with it because at least I don’t feel my vote is wasted when I vote for an alternative.

It’s probably a very unpopular opinion, but I feel like Jon Stewart is a bit overrated. He was at the height of his powers in the GWB era and he helped Kerry to a hefty loss, and then followed that up by running pointless and distracting political rallies that did nothing at all to prevent the 2010 shellacking by the tea party.

He helped provide cover for Trump this election cycle by laughing at him and at times even joking that he was gonna vote for Trump. I guarantee the daily show episodes that couch potato democrats like myself used to soothe themselves during this sleep walk into fascism will age like milk.

I couldn’t even bear to watch the election night coverage him and Colbert were doing and I’m sure that it got grim as hell (similar to coverage of 2016) as the jokes started to not match the bleak reality of an upcoming second Trump term.

His lasting political advocacy efforts for things (largely outside of the media) like the 9/11 first responders and Iraqi burn pit veterans are admirable though.

I would love to, but what the hell are we gonna do? Starting a new nationwide party is practically impossible and. (Intentionally so, of course)

And as much as we can point fingers and say “the people can fix the two party system” we have seen on multiple occasions that without major election reform that simply isn’t the case. Most of the country’s voters are older, and as we have seen today and yesterday, most voters would rather not vote at all than vote outside their party’s lines. The only reason third parties are even allowed to exist in the US is to either give the illusion of choice, or to spoil elections (as some argue happened in 2000, on top of all the other things fucked up with the 2000 election)

Not in the US but in another place where fascism is on the rise. The sad reality is that leftists all around the world might have to start thinking about self-defence. Go to the gym, practice martial arts. Since you’re in the US, arm yourself, learn how to shoot.

It sounds crazy but I’m not kidding, we still have time until the SA/SS Type of people actually have the power to roam the streets and establish a full blown dictatorship. Before that happens we have to learn to fight back.

In parallel, get organized. Join grassroots organizations. Try to spread the word. Talk to the people you know and tell them what you’re doing and why. It feels like we can’t do anything but we have to start somewhere.

And finally, think about an exit strategy. Once it’s 1933 and the dictatorship is established and political enemies go to the concentration camps, it’s too late and you better be somewhere abroad already.

I know all of this sounds extreme, and I’m hoping for a much more boring dystopia, but this is what would prepare you for the truly Orwellian dystopia and what may help prevent it from happening.

I think the strat would be too found a new party ( let’s say American Worker’s Party AWP) on the state and country level.

Get in the state parliaments. Later, if the party is established, get as many seats in the senate and the HoR as possible, but don’t touch the presidential race until it’s actually realistic.
