Very happy with this final episode of the arc. I am still disappointed by last week’s episode, but this one wraps up the arc nicely. A piece of Eminence trivia I thought I would mention is that Gettan’s final words and how Cid interprets them is actually a bit controversial with longtime fans.

Gettan’s final action was to tell Cid how he leaves his treasure to him while pointing at Yukime. He then begins to say Yukime’s name, but only gets out Yuki- before he dies. In Japanese, yuki (雪), is the word for snow. So, this leads Cid to believe that Gettan had buried the gold under the snow toward where he pointed. This is how things played out in the anime.

Now, the controversial bit… In the officially translated LNs, they changed this up. Instead of Gettan saying Yuki- as he dies, he instead says Yu-. This causes Cid (in the English version), to believe that the treasure is buried under a nearby Yew tree, likely so that they don’t need to include any kind of translator’s note about yuki/snow. A lot of the longtime fans that come from fan translations feel as though the Yew tree translation feels forced and unnatural. I don’t really have strong feelings either way, but find the situation interesting as it is just an example of how doing translations can require a lot of interpretation. It isn’t just looking stuff up in a dictionary.

That aside, I am really looking forward to the final arc of this season. I am hoping that by rushing through these first two arcs pretty quickly, they have given themselves plenty of time to give us something special for this one.
