I suppose this is considered science fiction. I believe it has just started airing. I’ve seen the comics on occasion around the internet and had no idea they were planning on adapting this into a series.
Has anyone seen the first episode yet? I’ll probably check it out tonight.
It’s alright but not as good as the comics. I feel like the quirky dialogue doesn’t really have the same impact when it’s happening over 20 minutes vs a short punchy four panel strip
The spirit of wit is brevity.
The Strange World comics only work in small doses.
You’ve captured my thoughts better than I could.
We have developed a bond, even as strangers. Rejoice.
But I do not wish to share more bonds…
And succinctly! :-)
The comics have also gone downhill. They used to be insanely cute and quirky and now it’s like they’ve been diluted.
The voices kill it for me. They’ve always just been monotone, nearly robotic voices in my head while reading the comics.
Yes, this is exactly what I came here to write.
The humor is all about decoding the language from the images alone, so the inflections and other verbal cues actually spoil every joke. There’s no ah-ha moment, because the meaning of the words is telegraphed to us simultaneously with the cryptic language.
I don’t understand how anyone can make an entire show about this without understanding the fundamental principle here.
Oh no.
Yep my exact reaction too. They’re way too emotive and human sounding.
This glowing rectangle presentation was adequate to hijack my executive function for the duration of its runtime.
The comics do give me a chuckle but it really is the same joke every time. That’s fine for a comic that I see pop up every now and then. But I don’t know how you build a show on that.
My thoughts exactly. I have very low expectations for this show and I suspect it will go very poorly.
If you like the punchlines from the comics, but are disappointed in the show, remember that the movie Coneheads exists.
Yeah but Coneheads operates on a level of campiness and absurdity that this cartoon just doesn’t look to be nearing by any stretch. Coneheads is definitely cult classic material and this just looks like another whatever cartoon to me.
Those heads freaked me out a little bit as a kid, never managed to watch it. Does it still holds up?
Oh man. It’s been so long since I’ve seen con heads! Time to re-watch.
I suspected that the show would be bad when I first heard they were making it. The comic’s alright but it’s not really the sort of material that translates well to the screen.
It’s not the kind of material that can start interested for more than 1 minute straight. The comics are fine when they’re spread out to a gag every day or so
Terrible reviews so far. I think a movie would have gone over better
The main problem with the series is trying to stretch a concept that works in 4 panel comics into a half hour sitcom. You think the solution would be to make it LONGER?
not surprised honestly. The trailer screamed “generic whacky!!! fun!!! comedy animation” and they just slapped a familiar IP ontop, didn’t match the vibe of the comic at all.
I watched the first 3 eps and I absolutly loved it! Can wait to watch the next one!
Watched the trailer that showed following the latest after party episode, wife and I both said “nope” and moved on to something else. Looks so fucking dumb. That cartoon was interesting for the first few months, but it’s just repeating the same joke over and over and over.
Saw this, put it on, am 7min into it and am giving it a 2/10, it’s pretty bad. Not sure I’ll watch any more.
Christ this looks so bad.
This looks like invader zim but like mid tier and no soul
Seems like this show is going to be rather divisive. I’ve barely seen any of these comics so I have no real attachment with it. I think as long as the show has some funny jokes then that is good enough to me.
