Another upvote for Fedora. I tried SO many flavors over the years and every single one of them, while cool and neat up front eventually developed “something” that was too problematic.
So I asked for a recommendation with a very specific set of things that I needed from a distribution. Everybody told me to just stop messing around with different flavors and just go with plain old vanilla Fedora.
It has been rock solid and perfect in every way, and I no longer have that need to distrohop because I’m missing something.
Gen-X here with 2 Gen-Z kids. I developed my typing skills playing MUDS in the early 90’s. My kids are….ok….at typing, and despite my guidance over the years, are really bad at troubleshooting though when something goes wrong. It should “just work” to them. If it doesn’t, then the solution is to replace it.
However, I WILL SAY…my typing speed is about 100-110 WPM on a keyboard, and that my daughter could probably match that speed typing on her phone.
Parsec for the TI99-4a
For me it’s gmail. I’ve disconnected from everything else, but I have WAY TOO MANY things connected to and through my gmail account.
I’ve also been saying this for a long time, only to be dismissed by most who are apathetic to what’s going on. So now, if I do have to deal with them, I only ever make purchases on my credit card, and if there is a problem, they get 1 chance to fix it before I dispute. In the last year, I’ve had to dispute 3 separate times. On the latest one, the item was never delivered. I asked for a refund or replacement, customer service was useless, so I sent in documents to my bank and disputed. What does Amazon do? They sent their “counter of my claim” to the bank from the shipping SHOWING THE ITEM TO BE UNDELIVERABLE as reason why the charge should not be reversed. My bank sided with me luckily. But they are truly awful now, and have been for a while.
Never needed to or even thought about it. uTorrent never gave me any issues and was super lightweight. Additionally, there was a fansubbed anime site I was a member of for a long time that had a limited whitelist of p2p clients last they would allow their trackers to function on. uT 2.2.1 was one of those.
That pc seldom gets used anymore nowadays anyway, as my main pc is running OpenSuse and ktorrent does all I need it to.
Out of curiosity, why Telegram? (Im out of the loop on this one)
As for uTorrent, I’ve got version 2.2.1 and have never allowed it to update in the last decade or however long it’s been. I think that was the last version that didn’t allow any ads or otherwise and was simply a solid p2p client at the time.
Nobara because I primarily game but need some tools that are only available natively for Debian and Fedora based distributions.
I am a Linux novice, but have been dabbling for a long time. I had to laugh at myself when I realized I was “distrohopping” because I wanted to try out different DE’s. I just made the connection that rather than hop, I can simply install a different DE.
He moved to Austin, TX a while ago. He’s no longer in New York.
The only reason I have Netflix is because I don’t pay for it. I get it free with Tmobile. I wonder how much of these are from TMO new users instead of organic subscriptions
I’m not sure on this one, but it may depend on the printer. Printing on Linux for me has been the easiest process ever. Windows fights me at every corner, but Linux sees my network printers and they just work out of the box. (I’ve only used Brother printers for the last 20 years)
