Firstly, I want to thank @zabadoh@ani.social for the inspiration to use a (non-spoilery) screenshot from the episode for the discussion threads. Having a post that is both a link post (to the image) and a discussion post is something that lemmy enables that I still need to get used to.
I remember being a bit surprised last episode at how little fanfare was paid to the passing of the Viscount. Well, it turns out that was because he wasn’t actually dead, but just faking his death. But in reality, he still almost died. The whole plan by the viscount is pretty roundabout and was resolved a bit too quickly/cleanly, but I am glad the show didn’t get bogged down in the details either. I am sure it is better explained in the novels.
The fight between the unknown mage and Peeps was really well done. I was impressed enough with how they animated those sequences that I went back and was flipping through and lots of those camera motions and effects are actually animated on 1’s. That whole sequence was a standout to me. However, by comparison, the fight that Sasaki and co. had with the orcs was tough to watch. It was easy to tell where this episode’s budget went.
Finally, a couple quick observations:
This whole episode took place in the isekai world. I hope we get to see some more of our world and how things are going with the psychics next episode.
I was a bit surprised that Peeps revealed himself to the Viscount and Prince after trying to keep the fact he can talk hidden from Elsa. Lingering attachments from his previous life perhaps?
Elsa seems to be visually represented by apples for some reason. The whole ED is about her and apples and then, I noticed this episode, the bodice of her dress looks like an apple core:

Kinda hilarious to have a Gundam styled dogfight from a little bird. I thought Pii-chan cannot fully use his power without going through Sasaki-san? If so he’s really, really powerful fighting like that while limited.

Alright, glad I am not crazy. I thought I remembered this, but then in this episode we see Peeps go off and leave Sasaki to fend for himself as he plummets to the ground. I think when they are together, like on Sasaki’s shoulder, he can use Sasaki as a conduit, but that was clearly not going on in this episode.
The fight also made me think back to old episodes of Gundam Wing where you just see a streak of light through the sky and then explosions around it. That sequence was a lot of fun.

I guess Pii-chan doesn’t need Sasaki for a fight against a low-diff devil.
Visual approximation of Pii-chan when leaving Sasaki’s shoulder to take out some devil trash:
