PC gamers in countries without PlayStation Network have expressed their frustration at Sony after the confirmation they cannot buy single-player games God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn on Steam.
I started getting upset in the 360/ps3 generation when they got rid of cheat codes. Who the hell cares if I’m cheating in a single player game? I’m not using it to beat somebody in a competition. Just disable achievements and leader boards and let me play the game I bought
Well, for cheat codes that’s just a consequence of having more complicated software to make games. The olden days they needed to use button sequences to debug some things. After a certain point there wasn’t any reason for devs to do that anymore.
But I agree, it’s a bummer.
I remember ps3 being the first time I bought a game only to have an piece of paper with a download code in it. THAT was upsetting.
I feel old. It wasnt just dev mode, Many games legit just had codes you could enter in a menu to unlock special features/modes/weapons temporarily. Hell in pokemon Gen 3 through Gen 5(?) That was how you unlocked the mystery gift menu. “Everybody happy wireless/WIFI connection”.

I know what they are lol I grew up with an NES. The codes came about so devs could quickly do things in game.
That’s how it started, but then they sometimes grew to their own level of features too.
I don’t believe that Age of Empires II needed shooting convertibles for debugging.
Hah! Get baited, now I feel younger /s
I miss fun stuff like showing off cheatcodes to friends in couch games. And couch games in general. And friends. ☹️
Good times, definitely.
“I used the Konami code while wearing an onion on my belt, as was the style at the time” haha
