Maybe the Japanese Pii-chan sounds too much like English slang for urination, i.e. to pee, for English stream services’ liking.

The one in this show isn’t even the first P-chan that I know of in anime: This character from Ranma 1/2 https://ranma.fandom.com/wiki/Ryoga_Hibiki has a cute pig form that’s nicknamed P-chan (see Nicknames in the sidebar).

It sounds like this type of name might be common Japanese practice for naming pet animals, although I don’t recall any other characters using other letter-chans for pet names, like I can’t recall a Z-chan, or a N-chan, for example.

I thought that P-chan was a pun from English “pigeon”

I like that theory! This is now my head-canon whether it is true or not.
