This anime’s honestly so much better than it should be, given its premise. Now that we’re past episode 9, I suppose we’ll be approaching the end of the season. I’m glad the manga’s still ongoing so I can look forward to a season 2 c:

The Galaxy Express ED was great. @rikka@ani.social

If you hadn’t heard the song before, it is from a 1979 film by the same name, Galaxy Express 999. There is a TV series as well, but this song is specifically from the film. It’s performed by a group called Godiego. Here is a video that shows them performing it (well, edited together performances).

The song has kind of stuck around ever since and been covered many times. My personal favorite cover is this music video by EXILE. In case you wanted to see what this song would be like if it had way more bad CG and a long rap break. It’s such a time capsule (2008) that I find it immensely entertaining.

It has had ups and downs, but overall it has been a lot of fun. I mentioned this in a previous thread, but one of the nice things about this show is how much Kenzaburou (the dad) matters as a character. Too often in isekai/otome series like this, after the initial reincarnation or transportation to another world, the person that they were in the previous world just doesn’t matter at all.

If you like this show, then last season had a kind of similar show where a character tries and fails at being a Villainess, I’ll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History. It is a bit less silly and covers some darker themes, but the basic premise is similar in that somebody tries to embody the villainess role and kind of makes herself endearing in the process.

I also appreciate how his family plays a role. (It is probably hinted at in the title, “Dad’s Been Reincarnated,” not “I’ve Been Reincarnated,” so you’ll probably expect to hear from his kid.) A lot of times people in the past life are present just to set up the character’s personality/outlook and never brought up again. I don’t mind that, but seeing something else done is still cool!

Also, double points for what seems like a healthy and peaceful family relationship. Mining family dynamics for drama is very easy (and totally understandable given the sheer amount of people with at least some amount of familial strife in their lives), so it is always nice to see a protagonist with a healthy home life.

I am following the manga, not the anime, but quickly skimmed the episode to see what Ep 9 covers to avoid spoilers or stuff that just never happens in the anime. Did my skim and the animation is nice and smooth!
